GM Code of Conduct

To make sure everyone has fun in as safe a way as possible, we have some expectations of games and behaviours which are listed below.

Before and during the game

  • When planning and running your game, please remember that you are representing the Tyneside Games Expo as a volunteer and deal with any issues that arise in a calm and respectful manner.

  • If you encounter any issues you feel unable to deal with, or you need support, please tell the Organised Play manager so that we can support you.

Before the game

  • Please outline any content warnings in your description of your game. For help with identifying themes that may require content warnings, see the RPG Consent Checklist at the end of Consent in Gaming by Sean K Reynolds and Shanna Germain.

  • Please consider using communication tools such as the above checklist, or those within the TTRPG Safety Toolkit, in your game. Not every communication tool works for every player, so please describe the tools you plan to use in the description of your game.

  • Please ensure that content is suitable to the stated age range of the game. For example, please do not include sexually explicit themes in games that are open to under-18s.

  • Please do not include themes such as suicide, self-harm, or rape in your games. Convention games with strangers are not the right place to explore these themes.

During the game

  • Please work to include all players in the game.

  • If a player’s behaviour causes distress to others at the table (including you) please tell them to stop the problematic behaviour. If they do not, please raise this with the Organised Play manager.

  • Please build at least one five-minute break into the game so that players can stretch their legs, use the toilets, etc. This is good practice generally, but particularly helpful for players with neurodiversity such as ADHD.
